The Soundboks Oz Grom Open, hosted by Lennox-Ballina Boardriders and now in its 15th year, is one of Australia’s premier junior surfing competitions, taking place from 7–12 July 2026 at the iconic Seven Mile Beach, Lennox Head.
The Age Division event is one of only five 10,000-point events on the national calendar, where Australia’s top junior surfers compete for valuable rankings points and the opportunity to qualify for the International Surf Association (ISA) World Junior Championships.
The event also incorporates a 1,000-point World Surf League (WSL) Pro Junior competition, where surfers aged 18–21 battle for qualification opportunities towards the upcoming World Junior Championships.
Widely regarded as one of the best junior surfing events in the world, the Soundboks Oz Grom Open delivers a world-class competition experience in the heart of the Northern Rivers.
The event is run similarly to a World Surf League Championship Tour event, featuring a professional judging tower, five-person judging panel, computerised scoring and priority systems, athlete zones, spectator areas, live webcast coverage, and commentary from internationally recognised personalities, athletes, and commentators — alongside a significant social media and digital presence.
For many competitors, the event offers a firsthand experience of what it’s like to compete as a professional surfer, while families, coaches, and support crews enjoy the unique lifestyle and natural beauty of the Northern Rivers region.
The WSL Pro Junior division also attracts significant international exposure through the World Surf League’s global streaming platform, reaching an audience of more than one million subscribers worldwide.
